The Grounds of Alexandria: New precincts now open
Arguably one of Sydney’s most photographed spots, The Grounds are a picturesque eating precinct hidden amongst the industrial backstreets of Alexandria. Known for its cafe, coffee roastery and sustainable garden, the fresh produce, small animal farm and markets make it feel like you’ve been transported from the middle of Sydney to the countryside.
That was always the plan, apparently. Ramzey Choker, co-founder of The Grounds, always “wanted to transform the spot with inspiration coming from my childhood memories of going to my uncle’s farm in rural New South Wales.” Ramzey goes on to say that was an escape to a place with an abundance of animals an greenery, fun and laughter. “We wanted to mimic this feel into a beautiful community space for our guests to reconnect in a busy world and enjoy time with their loved ones.”
Ramzey’s childhood memories have led to bigger expansions at The Grounds, with the launch of three new eateries located in The Garden. The Pizza Silo, Soda Barn and BBQ offer traditional favourites with a modern twist – typical of what you’d find hidden away in the whimsical Grounds.
Fancy the cheesy carby goodness of the Mediterranean? According to the menu, the new Pizza Silo’s double woodfire pizza ovens will be producing a range that is made with love and bursting with flavour. This includes the new The Grounds House-Made Sausage & Garden Thyme Pizza with Crusted Thyme, Sesame Seeds and Mixed Herbs, which is as delish as it sounds.
The Soda Barn will hark back to the days of the milk bar, with the ultra photographic Unicorn Soda set to be the signature drink. Sweet-tooths come prepared, because this drink is definitely sugary: strawberry and rainbow ice cream with whipped cream, topped with melt chocolate, sprinkles, cotton candy, meringue, and a lollipop to crown it. For those looking for something a little more savoury, a selection of wine, craft beer, smoothies and juices are also up for grabs.
The BBQ offers up a range of traditional hearty classics, all made onsite, such as the Flamin’ Awesome Burgers with options of either The Big Cheese with a house-ground beef patty, three cheese and secret sauce, or Captain Chook with buttermilk chicken, fennel slaw and jalapeno aioli – yum!
While you’re there, don’t forget to pop in and say hi to the locals: Kevin Bacon and his goat and chook mates over in the animal farm – they’re pretty chill.
