Elixir of the Hipsters: Sydney Craft Beer Week 2015
Do you know your pilsners from your lagers, your IPAs from your stouts and all the amber-liquid goodness in between – and most of all, hate the big breweries’ lack of decent drops? Turns out you’re not alone.
Coinciding with Good Food Month, Sydney Craft Beer Week 2015 gives hipsters and craft beer lovers the chance to get up close and personal with their favourite independent breweries across a range of events in Sydney’s pubs.
Last night, the festival kicked off at an opening gala at the Sydney Portuguese Community Club, with 19 brewers setting up shop and showcasing their finest brews. We stopped to chat with a few of the makers, who were able to give us intimate details on the brewing process, ingredients and locations.
Mostly local brewers were on hand to give some thirsty punters an early start on the week’s festivities. They will certainly be busy over the next 9 days showcasing their differing flavours across many who may not be able to access their brews. The recent explosion in microbreweries and craft brewers means that, as fantastic as the selection is, your local bottle-o might have a small selection. So these tasting events create new customers and give some drinkers a new list of brews to explore.
Sydney Craft Beer Week 2015 runs from the 17th to the 25th of October, with over 130 events held across Sydney, including the Inner West is Best Craft Beer Party and The Hair of the Dog Breakfast at the Union Hotel on the 24th.
